This two half-day seminar covers a variety of topics including:

  • Three Key Copyright Provisions Impacted by Licensing - Often licenses impact our use rights under copyright law, three of the rights are reviewed briefly and examples of license clauses that impact those rights are examined.
  • Understanding License Terms and Conditions - We will review a number of key concepts in licensing terms and conditions, this will build a foundation for a more detailed examination of licenses.
  • Licensing Pitfalls - Building on the previous work we continue the discussion of various provisions in licenses using sample language from actual licenses, evaluating the variations among the licenses and approaches to an effective response.
  • Walk-through of two license agreements - One is a content subscription agreement of various journal titles, and the other is a service agreement that allows us to apply the previous concepts and examine license provisions in the context of a complete agreement.
  • A Checklist for evaluating your license based on the Liblicense Model License Agreement - Understanding the pluses and minuses of a model license agreement we will determine that such agreements can nonetheless offer a guide for reviewing a license.
